Everything Forever, Museet for samtidskunst Roskilde, 2017
"The elements were here before us, and they will still be here long after we are gone. The iron used for the legs in this chair was created billions of years before we were born, and the concrete sculpture i recieved as a housewarming present will probably survive me and my children."
Everyting Forever is a prototype for a database detailing individual consumers' personal property. By recording things and data about things Rune Brink seeks to establish a more responsible, commited and long-term relationship between people and their possesions.
For this exhibition Brink has registered heirlooms, crafts and materials that offer a specific time-based perspective on life. The database asigns a unique digital and physical ID to each thing, listing its currend and previous owners, manufacturer, origins, materials and any repairs made through the years.
www.everythingforever.org is open to exhibition visitors, allowing them to set up their own profile and start recording their possesions.
